Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I go to the dentist?

Regular check-ups should be scheduled about every six months in order to effectively clean plaque and get ahead of any tooth decay that may have started. If you have periodontal disease, you might need to visit more often. If you need treatment for decay or for cosmetic dentistry, we’ll work with you to schedule convenient appointment times.

Can you explain what bridges, crowns, bonding, veneers, and root canals are?

Each of these services either remove decay and prevent the possibility of infection (or prevent further infection) or improve your ability to chew food, speak, and bite. A root canal removes infected tissue and nerves from a tooth. After a small hole is drilled in the tooth, tiny files are used to remove the infected nerve and tissue. We always make sure a root canal is a pain-free experience for our patients.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It uses the two teeth on either side of the missing or damaged tooth as anchors and is a permanent fixture (unlike dentures). We will match the color of the bridge as closely as possible to your other teeth.

A crown is a false cap. A crown is molded and colored to look like a natural tooth and is cemented onto the top of your original tooth (after decay has been removed or after a root canal) or on an implant.

Bonding is the application of a thin coat of plastic material on the front surface of your teeth. It fills in gaps, corrects color, and gives your smile a more pleasing aesthetic appearance.

Veneers are made of either porcelain or resin and are thin shells that can be bonded to the front of your teeth. Used for aesthetic purposes, veneers can cover up tooth stains and discoloration, broken or chipped teeth, gaps, or crooked teeth.

Why should I have my teeth whitened professionally instead of using OTC whiteners?

Not only will your teeth be whiter immediately, but the product we use is superior to OTC whiteners you can buy in the drugstore. Zoom! teeth whitening products have been proven to be highly effective at removing stains and correcting discoloration as well as brightening and whitening your smile.
